Hillary Clinton is drumming up interest in a general election debate with Donald Trump as she turns her focus toward battling the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Wright State was selected to host one of only four general election debates in the fall of 2016 where the final candidates will debate each other prior to the November general election. Washington University is no stranger to hosting presidential debates. The university hosted presidential debates in 1992, 2000 and 2004. Washington University also hosted the Vice Presidential debate in 2008.

Their method is reminiscent of the Greek tradition of city-states where almost all most all citizens get involved in one way or other. Debates and discussions become the major modus operandi in the selection of candidates as nominees for the major parties.

The Washington coalition wants to hold six debates, three each in the gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races. So far it's penciled in four to take place immediately following the presidential debates Sept. 26, Oct. 9 and Oct. 19 and the vice presidential debate Oct. 4.

Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson faced off against his four main rivals on the debate stage on Saturday night, earning some of the night's loudest cheers and boos as he tried to sell his viability in the general election without alienating his party's more hardcore members.

Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Bernie Sanders on Thursday explored staging an unconventional U.S. presidential debate that would sideline Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton and create a television spectacle that could attract huge ratings.

"Based on the fact that the Democratic nominating process is totally rigged ... it seems inappropriate that I would debate the second place finisher," Trump said in a statement.
